Preparing for Your Colonoscopy
Please arrive at your designated facility 30 minutes prior to your procedure. Bring identification, your insurance cards, the medical form from this office, and a medication list. Because of the sedation, you must have someone drive or accompany you home after your procedure. No exceptions will be made. You cannot drive, operate machinery, or sign legal documents for 24 hours after your procedure.Medication Considerations
If you are on anticoagulants such as Warfarin (Coumadin), Dabigatran (Pradaxa), Apixaban (Eliquis), or Rivaroxaban (Xarelto), or anti-platelets such as Clopidogrel (Plavix), Ticlopidine (Ticlid), Prasugrel (Effient), or Dipyridamole (Persantine), contact your prescribing physician for adjustments before your procedure. Inform our office of any medication changes. Patients with a history of constipation or those taking narcotics (e.g., morphine, OxyContin, Fentanyl, Vicodin) should contact our office for potential prep modifications. Diabetics should consult their diabetes care provider for medication and insulin adjustments on the day of their prep.Insurance and Billing
Check with your insurance company prior to your procedure to confirm your coverage. A colonoscopy is considered a screening if you have no GI symptoms. If you have symptoms such as abdominal pain, bleeding, diarrhea, or constipation, it is considered diagnostic. If a polyp or tissue is removed, your colonoscopy may be classified as a surgical procedure.Dietary Instructions
